Dense Wednesday morning fog along California Highway 99 near Caldwell led to a mangled wreckage of 49 cars and four tractor trailers.
The fog rolled over California Highway 99 Wednesday morning limiting visibility to around 200 feet, which, at highway speed, can only mean massive pileups. A ten car tangle involving a big rig led to additional accidents for a grand total of 49 cars and four semi trucks.
California Highway Patrol shut down the highway to clean up the mess which resulted in only two people needing hospitalization. This pile up marks the first fog-related incident on California's roads during what is considered foggy-crash season. Remember folks, slow down, and give yourself a couple of Mississippi's of distance between you and the car you're following. Of course, if you can't see the car in front of you, that might be tough.
